Mercedes-Benz India posts strong results in 2025, premium cars and pure electric vehicles driving growth –

Mercedes-Benz India reported strong performance in 2025, driven by sustained demand in its core segments and strong traction in its premium vehicles, including AMG models and its battery electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio. The company delivered 19,007 vehicles throughout the year, nearly matching 2024 sales, while recording its best-ever year in terms of revenue, underscoring the brand’s ability to maintain customer preference and loyalty in the highly competitive luxury vehicle market.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “2026 will be a dynamic year with the launch of 12 new products, expansion of our local production portfolio, launch of MB.Charge Public, expansion into new markets and investments in upgrading our entire network. Commencement of local production of Mercedes-Maybach GLS The decision reaffirms Mercedes-Benz’s strong commitment to Indian customers to offer premium luxury SUVs ‘Made in India’. “India is now among the top 5 markets for Mercedes-Maybach globally, which highlights our strong focus on premium vehicles and makes us the most popular luxury car brand. Local production will further enhance the car’s appeal, reaffirming our world-class manufacturing capabilities and agility to meet the most demanding customer demands for such unique high-end vehicles. “

Premium models, including S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach and AMG models, showed significant resilience, growing 11% year-on-year and accounting for 25% of total sales. The high-performance AMG product portfolio grew strongly by 34%, reflecting growing customer desire for performance-led luxury. Mercedes-Benz India’s pure electric vehicle portfolio also maintained its growth momentum, growing by 12% and accounting for 20% of all premium sales. Notably, 70% of the pure electric vehicles sold this year are high-end models priced between Rs 125 crore and Rs 31 lakh, including the EQS SUV, EQS sedan, Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV and the electric G580. The EQS SUV becomes the brand’s highest-selling luxury pure electric vehicle in India.

Sedans continue to play a key role in the company’s sales mix, driven by strong demand for the C-Class, long-wheelbase E-Class, S-Class and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The long wheelbase E-Class retains its status as the most popular and best-selling luxury car in India. The SUV portfolio also offers strong performance, supported by demand for models such as the GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS, Mercedes-Maybach GLS and the iconic AMG G63. Entry-level luxury models are planned to decline by 20% year-on-year, accounting for 13% of total sales, which is in line with the brand’s strategy of prioritizing product substance rather than price-dominated competition.

Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz India has announced plans to launch 12 new products in 2026, including new models, facelifts, and a number of premium cars and pure electric vehicles. The highlight will be the much-anticipated debut of CLA BEV, which will introduce the new MB.OS operating system, reinforcing the brand’s technology-dominated roadmap in India.

The company also announced the start of local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS at its Pune manufacturing plant, making India the first market outside the United States to locally assemble the ultra-luxury SUV. The move reflects India’s growing importance as one of the top five markets for Mercedes-Maybach globally and is expected to improve delivery schedules and customer access. Since its launch in India in 2021, the Maybach GLS has been experiencing consistent demand from customers seeking the pinnacle of luxury SUV experience.

In the EV ecosystem, Mercedes-Benz India has launched MB.CHARGE Public, a unified digital charging service that allows EV customers to access the nationwide charging network through the Mercedes-Benz app or RFID. The service integrates multiple charging partners, offers real-time availability, transparent pricing and seamless payment options, and enables access to over 9,000 DC charging points across India. MB.CHARGE Public operates in 37 countries around the world with more than 3.3 million charging points, providing customers with a consistent charging experience.

To strengthen its retail presence, Mercedes-Benz India plans to add 30 luxury vehicle touchpoints by 2026, including 15 new stores in three new markets and upgrade of 15 existing locations. The franchise partners are expected to invest over Rs 450 crore to maintain a world-class retail network. The company has also streamlined its sales, service and financial operations into a unified “single customer unit” model, enabling a single window purchasing experience. As part of this transformation, Mercedes-Benz India is launching a fully digital ‘3 Clicks to Finance’ process aimed at reducing turnaround time and providing a smoother and more personalized luxury ownership journey.

Bajaj Auto launches Chetak C25 electric scooter at ₹91,399

Bajaj Auto Limited has expanded its mass-market electric two-wheeler portfolio with the launch of Chetak C25, priced at ₹91,399 (ex-showroom, including central government subsidy under the PM e-Drive scheme). Booking for the new model has now started.

Positioned as the most affordable variant in the Chetak range, the C25 becomes the second electric scooter from Bajaj Auto to be priced under ₹1 lakh. It joins the existing Chetak lineup which includes the 3501, 3502, 3503 and 3001 variants. In the Indian market, Chetak C25 will compete with rivals like TVS Orbiter, TVS iQube 2.2, Hero Vida VX2 Go and Ola S1X.

The electric scooter is powered by a 2.5 kWh NMC battery pack that offers a claimed range of 113 km on a single charge, paired with a 2.2 kW hub-mounted motor that offers a top speed of 55 km/h. Charging is handled by a 750W off-board charger, which enables the battery to be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 2 hours and 25 minutes.

Built on a tubular frame, the Chetak C25 offers 25 liters of under-seat storage. According to Bajaj Auto, the new variant is 22 kg lighter than the previous generation model, resulting in improved efficiency and handling. The scooter has a warranty of three years or 50,000 km.

In terms of sales, the Pune-based manufacturer of e-scooters (Chetak and Yulu) moved up from No. 3 in 2024 to No. 2 spot in 2025. Bajaj Auto sells 269,836 units in 2025, up 39% YoY, crossing both 200,000 and 250,000 units annually for the first time. This gives the company a 21% market share, growing strongly to 17% in 2024 and 8% in 2023.

Bajaj Auto was crowned the No. 1 e-2W OEM for the first time in February 2025 and followed it up with its best monthly sales (35,214 units) in March 2025. The company’s overall 12-month performance would have been much better had Chetak production not slowed down due to supply chain disruptions of critical rare earth magnets in July and August, impacting retail sales.

Bajaj Auto continues to expand its Chetak network, which now has 390 exclusive stores and 4,280 sales points across more than 500 cities. It also has more than 4100 service workshops.

In 2025, out of the total 22,70,425 EVs sold in India across four zero-emission vehicle sub-segments (up 16% YoY), electric scooters, motorcycles and mopeds accounted for 1.28 million units (up 11% YoY) or 56% share. This is down from the 59% share of the E-2W segment in 2024, when it accounted for 1.14 million out of a total of 1.95 million EVs across all segments.

Importantly, the 11% YoY growth is on the back of a higher base from a year ago and a lower price differential between IC engine two-wheelers and EVs coupled with the sharp cut in GST. With a record 20.29 million two-wheeler sales across India in 2025, e-2W penetration was 6.30% last year, while in 2024 it was 6.07% (18.92 million 2W).

India’s electric two-wheeler market could have registered strong growth in 2025 had it not been for a sharp slowdown in its former market leader Ola Electric. The company’s sales declined more than 50 percent year-on-year to below 200,000 units, compared to 407,700 units in 2024, impacting overall segment momentum.

Looking ahead, the competitive intensity in India’s electric scooter market is set to further increase. Bajaj Auto, boosted by the launch of its new mass-market electric scooter, is looking to extend its lead over Ather Energy and Ola Electric, as well as challenge TVS Motor Company for the top spot in the segment.

RoadGrid raises ₹12 crore in pre-series round led by Inflection Point Ventures AutoguideIndia

EV charging infrastructure startup RoadGrid has raised ₹12 crore in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Inflexion Point Ventures, with participation from a group of strategic and angel investors. These include Venture Catalysts, Kamal Puri of Skyline Group, FAAD Network, LetsVenture, Vrinda Goyal of Pace Group, Haresh Patel of Arthonomics and Manish Srivastava of Alpha Value.

This funding marks an important milestone in RoadGrid’s ambition to build one of India’s largest and most accessible electric vehicle charging ecosystems.

RoadGrid operates across two rapidly growing verticals. The first focuses on manufacturing and supplying EV chargers to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to meet the growing demand for off-board and fast DC charging solutions for two-wheelers, three-wheelers and passenger vehicles. The second vertical includes the deployment and operation of public and commercial charging stations – this segment is expected to require around 30 lakh charging points by 2030, while currently around 8,000 are installed across the country.

The company’s business model combines charging as a service with direct OEM sales. RoadGrid is installing and operating charging stations with strong order book with utilities like BSES and NPCL and Navi Mumbai Transport as well as active deployment at Indore Noida and IOCL. The company has a solid pipeline of over 1,000 chargers. In parallel, RoadGrid supplies chargers directly to EV OEMs. RoadGrid has partnered with VinFast arm WeGreen to develop EV charging network at HPCL retail outlets. As a technology partner, RoadGrid is also supporting the EV network for VinFast aftersales network in India.

The company operates in two segments. Under Charging as a Service (CaaS), it installs, operates and maintains EV charging stations, with orders currently under execution, including deployment in Indore (76 chargers) and Navi Mumbai (250 chargers). These executions along with active engagement with utilities like BSES and NPCL have resulted in a confirmed order book and pipeline of over 1,000 chargers. In parallel, the company undertakes direct OEM sales of EV chargers in the 2W, 3W and 4W segments, supported by an additional 1,000+ chargers under order. To date, the company has executed over 100 installations in MP, Rajasthan and Karnataka for major customers including IOCL, Amazon, BSES and NPCL, including deployments in cities such as Lucknow, Hyderabad and Bangalore. The EV charging market is currently estimated at ₹5,000 crore and is expected to grow to ₹50,000 crore in the next six years.

The founding team brings experience in EV infrastructure, engineering and operations. Deepesh Srinath (Founder & CEO) has 10+ years of experience with an engineering and MBA background and prior roles at Emerson and Eaton. Shashank Narayan (CTO) has 10+ years of experience in EV charging and renewable energy with prior roles at Delta Electronics and Harting, and is the author of the EV Charger Handbook published by NITI Aayog. Chandraprakash Akotkar (COO) has 12+ years of experience in electrical design and infrastructure projects, while Bharat Joshi (CMO) has 30+ years of experience in advertising infrastructure and has represented India internationally in sports.

Mitesh Shah, co-founder of IPV, says, “One of the biggest gaps in India’s EV journey today is not intention, but infrastructure. Consumers are ready to adopt electric mobility, but the lack of reliable, accessible charging continues to slow the pace. What stood out to us about RoadGrid is their clear understanding of this gap and their ability to address it across multiple layers, from charger manufacturing to on-ground charging operations. Both OEM partnerships and public charging networks “But their focus puts them in good position to build infrastructure that is not only comprehensive, but practical and sustainable.”

Deepesh Srinath, Founder and CEO of RoadGrid, says, “RoadGrid is on a mission to enable seamless, sustainable and accessible electric mobility across India. We are focused on building reliable, universal charging infrastructure that works across vehicle categories and real-world use cases. Along with our VC partners, we will expand EV charging infrastructure that can become foundational to India’s EV ecosystem and support national scale adoption.”

The EV charging market opportunity spans two segments. The first is manufacturing and selling chargers as OEMs, driven by expectations that India will have 80-100 million (8-10 crore) EVs by 2030 to meet the government target of 30% private vehicle penetration. This will require a large amount of charging equipment, both integrated with the vehicles and as external charging solutions. The second segment is operationalizing charging stations, which represents a significant opportunity given the need for approximately 30 lakh charging stations by 2030 in India compared to the current base of approximately 8,000 stations.

RoadGrid is an India-based electric vehicle charging technology company focused on developing patented universal charging solutions, intelligent cloud-based software and a nationwide EV charging network. Founded by industry veterans with extensive experience in power infrastructure, renewable energy, EV technologies and large-scale project execution, the company aims to enable seamless, sustainable and widely accessible electric mobility across India.
