Eberspacher opens new plant in Poland to support hybrid and electric buses.

Eberspacher Group has opened a new plant in Przemyśl, Poland where production of thermal management systems for electric city buses and coaches has begun. Up to 20,000 systems will roll off the production line each year.

“Due to the increasing demand for electric buses we need to expand our capabilities for bus air conditioning systems,” explains Jörg Steens, CEO of Eberspacher Group. The Bus and Coach business unit has been producing in Poland for seven years. First as part of the Eberspacher site in Oława. Where vehicle heaters continue to be produced for all types of drives. About 100 employees are now moving into the new building. Zelio eBikes has entered the e-rickshaw market with the launch of its first models, the Tanga Butterfly and the Tanga SS. The Tanga Butterfly is priced at Rs 1,45,000 and the Tanga SS is priced at Rs 1,40,000 (ex-showroom), these models were first unveiled at the EV India Expo 2024 in New Delhi.

The Tanga Butterfly made from mild steel (MS) and the Tanga SS made from stainless steel (SS) mark Zelio’s entry into the shared mobility space. Both models are designed for urban and semi-urban commuters, addressing the growing demand for last-mile connectivity in India.

With a maximum speed of 30 km/h and a range of 100 km per charge, both e-rickshaws are powered by a 1200W motor and 48/60V 135Ah Eastman battery, which requires approximately eight hours to fully charge. They are also equipped with SMPS charger providing protection against voltage fluctuations.

The Tanga Butterfly will be available in Red, Grey, White, Sky Blue and Military Green, while the Tanga SS will come in Blue, Red, Sea Blue, Parrot Green and Grey.

Commenting on the launch, Kunal Arya, Co-Founder and Managing Director, ZELIO Ebikes, said that entering the e-rickshaw segment is in line with the company’s goal of contributing to India’s electric mobility ecosystem. He emphasized that the Tanga Butterfly and Tanga SS have been designed with special focus on safety, performance and affordability, ensuring that they cater to a wide range of customers.

In terms of safety and comfort, both models are equipped with advanced braking systems, including front lever-operated drum brake, rear pedal-operated drum brake and hand lever-operated parking brake. To enhance the ride quality, the front suspension features 43 mm telescopic hydraulic shockers, while the rear suspension uses leaf spring shockers. The e-rickshaw is also fitted with 3.75-12 mm tires manufactured by TVS on both the front and rear wheels.

The chassis is built with a high-stiffness monocoque frame. With a wheelbase of 2030 mm, length of 2690 mm, width of 1000 mm, height of 1710 mm and ground clearance of 200 mm, the models are designed to navigate urban and semi-urban roads with ease.

Additional features include wide front glass with wiper, LED headlamps with DRL, LED cabin lighting and LED indicators. For passenger and driver convenience, the models come with a digital meter, FM radio with dual speakers, heavy curtains, a bottle holder, a cash pocket and central locking. Accessories like fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tool kit and jack are also included.
