Ferrari Luce debuts with 1,035 hp, 530 km range and four-motor AWD

Ferrari has unveiled the Ferrari Luce in the symbolic setting of the Vila di Calatrava – Città dello Sport in Rome, marking the beginning of a new era in the brand’s heritage of engineering excellence and innovation. The location holds historical significance for the marque, as Ferrari achieved its first victory in Rome in 1947 when a Ferrari 125 S driven by Franco Cortez won the Gran Premio di Roma. Nearly eight decades later, Ferrari has returned to the Italian capital to launch a project that underlines its continuing ambition to push the boundaries of automotive performance and technology.

The Ferrari Luce represents a major milestone in Maranello’s multi-energy strategy, which was first outlined during the company’s 2022 capital markets day and has been reaffirmed on several occasions since. Staying true to its principle of technological neutrality, Ferrari sees electrification as an additional opportunity to expand possibilities in vehicle architecture, performance, design and driving experience, rather than a replacement for its traditional powertrains. Delivering 1,035 hp, the all-electric Grand Tourer signals Ferrari’s entry into the EV era while preserving the brand’s core philosophy of emotion, innovation and driving engagement.

Deepening the Prancing Horse’s in-house expertise in electric technology opens up new possibilities for performance and efficiency across the entire Ferrari ecosystem. This includes technology transfer between road cars and the 499P, which won the last edition of the World Endurance Championship, and the bold Ferrari HyperCell project, which is a unique laboratory of research and innovation. The Ferrari Luce expands the Maranello marque’s expertise even further, opening a new segment in line with Maranello’s DNA of combining performance, engagement and versatility.

The name Ferrari Luce emanates clarity and direction. It points the way towards the future and defines the intention to create Ferrari 360°, not just an “electric Ferrari” but a completely new Ferrari, designed for intense engagement and performance, with a unique and recognizable character. In keeping with tradition, Ferrari decided to engineer, develop and manufacture key components in-house; From the electric engine to the battery pack, every element is built in Maranello to guarantee quality, control and exclusivity. The project includes more than 60 new patents, testifying to Ferrari’s technical excellence and an approach that also pays attention to long-term value. In future, in line with the Ferrari Forever philosophy, Ferrari will provide support on all electric components, including batteries.

The design of the Ferrari Luce was entrusted to Lovefrom, the design group led by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson. Introducing a team from outside the Ferrari design studio, led by Flavio Manzoni, invited a fresh perspective and cross-fertilization, allowing a new design language to be introduced. Lovefrom was given the necessary creative freedom to define the design direction of the project from the beginning, translating this design language into an authentic Ferrari experience. The electric power source, Ferrari-engineered engines and advanced drivetrains provide a fundamentally new architecture that uniquely combines exceptional Ferrari performance with the luxury of spaciousness.

This architecture generously accommodates four doors and five seats, which is a first for the Prancing Horse (as the transaxle configuration with a front-mid engine and rear gearbox does not allow a fifth seat). The interior is a celebration of hundreds of different products, each carefully considered and treated with individual care. Together they form a single, clean volume, in which form is simplified and rationalized in the service of the driving experience. The exterior, interior, and interface share a unified design language.

A defining visual feature of the Ferrari Luce is the unprecedented purity of the glass house. This uncompromising, shell-like form extends to the extremes of the car below the belt line. Aerodynamic wings at the front and rear, floating above and around the silhouette of the Glass House, enable this distinctively pure and simple look. The front and rear light panels are transparent and part of the primary surfaces. When turned off, the lights gradually dim, maintaining the purity of the form. Halo tail lights celebrate the beauty and clarity of the 360 Modena and 458 Italia. The extreme innovation of the Ferrari Luce manifests itself with a custom wheel design. The Luce has the largest wheel diameter on a series-production Ferrari road car: 23″ at the front and 24″ at the rear.

The interface is designed with clear organizational principles of input and output. Controls and displays are functionally grouped, with the most essential commands and feedback directly in front of the driver. Thousands of deeply considered details unite to create a unique driving experience. Precision-engineered mechanical buttons, dials, toggles and switches are combined with a multifunctional digital display developed with Samsung Display©. The materials are honest and pure – recycled anodized aluminum, Corning® Gorilla® Glass and premium leather. The enhanced audio system features 21 speakers and 24 channels/3000 watts of amplification, includes the innovative Ferrari Audio Signature, and includes presets, individual hearing optimization and dynamic compensation functions.

From a technical point of view, the Ferrari Luce is based on an exclusive platform with a dedicated chassis and engineering innovations in every component. Technologies derived from Ferrari’s unrivaled experience in the world of motor racing made it possible to control the curb weight at 2260 kg, helping to deliver best-in-class performance (0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, a top speed of over 310 km/h and a maximum total power output of 1050 CV) and a range of over 530 km.

The Ferrari Luce is powered by four electric motors – one dedicated to each wheel – and features a high-capacity 122 kWh battery pack, an active suspension system derived from the Ferrari F80, and an independent steering rear axle. At the heart of its technological innovation are two defining concepts that shape Ferrari’s bold entry into the high-performance electric sports car segment: precise control of each wheel speed in every direction and in all driving conditions, and a uniquely authentic approach to sound.

Commenting on the unveiling, Ferrari Chairman John Elkann said that the Ferrari Luce represents another step in redefining the boundaries of what is possible for the brand. He said the company is not only introducing a new model but opening an entirely new chapter that turns Ferrari’s vision into reality while continuing its tradition of predicting and shaping the future of mobility. Elkann highlighted that such leaps in product innovation have been made possible through innovation in development processes and new collaborations, including Ferrari’s partnership with Lovefrom for the design of the vehicle. He said Ferrari’s research and engineering expertise is focused on providing uncompromising driving emotion, adding that Rome – the site of Ferrari’s first victory – symbolizes the starting point of a future-oriented Ferrari that opens new horizons.

Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, said that true leadership lies in the courage to embrace new technologies and face bold challenges head-on. According to him, the Ferrari Luce embodies Ferrari’s unique vision for electrification and offers customers an unprecedented level of choice. Sticking with Ferrari’s philosophy of technological neutrality, Vigna emphasized that the company is the first sports car manufacturer to simultaneously offer fully electric, hybrid and internal combustion engine architectures. He further added that Ferrari has gone beyond simply inventing the powertrain with Luce and has created an entirely new segment within its product portfolio. Developed through more than 60 new patents and supported in collaboration with leading technology partners, the Ferrari Luce is engineered to combine exceptional performance, comfort and driving pleasure with the emotional experience expected by Ferraristi generation after generation.
