BYD India announces price revision for BYD SEALION 7 effective from January 2026.

BYD India, a subsidiary of the world’s No. 1 NEV (new energy vehicle) manufacturer BYD, has announced the upcoming price increase for BYD SEALION 7, effective from January 1, 2026. Customers booking the eSUV on or before December 31, 2025, can still avail the current ex-showroom pricing, securing additional value ahead of the scheduled increase.

Current ex-showroom prices (valid till 31 December 2025):
• SEALION 7 Performance (82.56 kWh) – ₹54,90,000
• Sealion 7 Premium (82.56 kWh) – ₹48,90,000

Since its showcase debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, BYD SEALION 7 has gained a strong foothold across the country and has achieved over 2,000 customer deliveries. This milestone reflects the growing demand for the fully electric pure performance eSUV, known for its advanced technology, premium design and dynamic driving performance.

Powered by BYD’s advanced iTAC (Intelligence Torque Adaptation Control) and CTB (Cell to Body) technology, the BYD SEALION 7 Blade integrates the battery as a structural part of the chassis, providing better cabin space, better handling and advanced safety. The vehicle is equipped with an 82.56 kWh battery pack and is available in both Premium and Performance variants, offering strong acceleration, extended range and a set of luxury and technology features. BYD SEALION 7 has a 5-star NCAP safety rating, further strengthening its commitment to advanced safety engineering. In the Performance trim, the car can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, and in the Premium, the same speed is achieved in 6.7 seconds. The BYD SEALION 7 Performance offers a range of 542 kilometers and the Premium can go up to 567 kilometers on a single full charge (both range figures are as per NEDC testing). The performance takes the power figures to 390 kW and torque to 690 Nm. The premium variant produces 230 kW of power and 380 Nm of torque. BYD SEALION 7 has a length of 4,830 mm and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, ensuring solid design proportions and ample interior space.

Battery Smart releases first impact report highlighting India’s EV progress

Cabinet approves ₹7,280 crore scheme to promote rare earth magnet manufacturing in India.

In a major step towards reducing dependence on imports and strengthening India’s position in advanced manufacturing, the Union Cabinet has approved an incentive scheme of ₹7,280 crore to promote domestic production of rare earth permanent magnets. The initiative aims to establish a strong end-to-end supply chain for critical minerals that fuel high-technology sectors such as electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, renewable energy, aerospace and defence.

The scheme, which will be valid for seven years, includes an initial period of two years for setting up integrated rare earth magnet production facilities and a five-year incentive disbursement linked to sales output. This is expected to enable creation of approximately 6,000 tonnes annual production capacity of rare earth magnets within the country.

With heavy dependence on imports – primarily from China – India’s magnet processing and refining ecosystem has remained underdeveloped for a long time. The newly approved policy framework aims to attract global and domestic investors, encourage value addition within India and secure access to essential strategic inputs for emerging industries. The Finance Ministry has already approved the proposal, allowing the Cabinet to move ahead with the decision.

By boosting capabilities in critical minerals processing and magnet manufacturing, the scheme aligns with the government’s larger mission of creating resilient supply chains, advancing Make-in-India manufacturing and promoting technological self-reliance.

Bajaj Auto enters e-rickshaw market with the launch of ‘Bajaj Rikki’.

Bajaj Auto Limited has officially entered India’s fast-growing e-rickshaw market with the launch of its new electric three-wheeler, Bajaj Ricky, marking a significant expansion beyond its established leadership in the two-wheeler and three-wheeler categories. This strategic move comes as the e-rickshaw segment adds over 45,000 units every month due to the growing demand for affordable and reliable last-mile transportation in urban and semi-urban areas.

Two variants with competitive pricing and strong range

Bajaj has introduced two models:

Ricky P4005 Passenger – ₹1,90,890 (Ex-showroom) Ricky C4005 Cargo – ₹2,00,876 (Ex-showroom)

The passenger variant is equipped with a 5.4 kWh battery that offers a certified range of 149 km, while the cargo variant offers 164 km range, making them one of the higher-range offerings in the category.

The Ricky lineup features a number of upgrades not commonly seen in the current e-rickshaw market, including:

Industry-wide pilot testing and regional rollout

Before the launch, Ricky was extensively pilot tested in Patna, Moradabad, Guwahati and Raipur. Bajaj is now planning an aggressive rollout in over 100 cities across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Assam, supported by the company’s extensive nationwide service network.

Focus on transforming last mile urban mobility

Speaking at the launch, Samardeep Subandh, President, Intra-City Business Unit, Bajaj Auto, said the company aims to provide higher reliability, safety and operational performance than existing products in the segment.

E-rickshaws have become an integral part of India’s last-mile ecosystem – acting as important feeders for metro rail, suburban rail and city bus services. Their adoption has accelerated post-Covid amid increasing demand for personal and shared micro-mobility.

Bajaj Auto strengthens its leadership position

Bajaj Auto, which bills itself as the world’s most valuable two- and three-wheeler manufacturer, has sold more than 21 million motorcycles globally and leads India in motorcycle exports. JSW MG Motor India has announced a historic achievement as MG Windsor successfully completed the 3,757 km journey from Leh to Kanyakumari in just 83 hours and 43 minutes, setting a record for the fastest EV driven on this route. This achievement has been officially recognized by the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records, setting a new benchmark for long distance electric mobility in India.

The endurance expedition was executed by Mountain Goat, a team of passionate motorsports professionals who drove through extremely diverse terrain – from the rugged, high-altitude, sub-zero landscapes of Ladakh to the humid, tropical plains of southern India. Through the journey, the MG Windsor demonstrated exceptional reliability, real-world range stability and performance stability under extreme climate and road conditions.

During the cross-country run, the Windsor completed only 20 charging stops, effectively debunking myths about long-distance travel in electric vehicles. Charging locations were efficiently identified using e-Hub by MG Mobile App, which provides access to over 13,000+ EV chargers across India through integration with 36 leading charge-point operators.

This achievement reinforces MG Motor India’s ‘EV Sahi Hai’ campaign, which highlights that electric vehicles are practical, capable and ready for mainstream long-distance travel.

Murugappa Group’s clean-mobility brand Montra Electric has expanded into northern agricultural markets with the launch of India’s first ARAI-certified electric tractor Montra Electric E-27, which has been showcased at the 9th edition of EIMA AgriMAC India 2025, one of the country’s leading global agri-machinery exhibitions.

The E-27 represents a breakthrough in sustainable, high-performance farming, engineered to deliver clean power, low operating costs and reliable performance across multiple agricultural applications. Built for the modern Indian farmer, the E-27 uses a high-efficiency PMSM motor to produce 27 HP of power and 90 Nm of torque to support heavy-duty tasks including ploughing, harrowing, spraying and hauling.

India’s leading aluminum producer Vedanta Aluminum has expanded the country’s largest lithium-ion battery-powered electric forklift fleet to 142 vehicles, more than double its previous number. Deployed across its state-of-the-art operations in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, this milestone marks a major leap towards sustainable industrial logistics.

The initiative, announced on World Sustainable Transport Day (26 November), reflects Vedanta’s commitment to transform India’s industrial ecosystem through clean, efficient and future-ready mobility solutions.

World Sustainable Transport Day, celebrated annually by the United Nations, highlights the importance of safe, accessible and environmentally responsible transport systems that support sustainable economic growth and global cooperation for low-emission infrastructure.

In addition to reducing environmental impact and increasing efficiency, sustainable transport is emerging as an important catalyst for achieving broader development goals such as gender equality and climate action. The transition to electric forklifts is in line with Vedanta’s commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, while also advancing its goal of decarbonizing its light motor vehicle (LMV) fleet by 2030.

Mahindra electric SUV celebrates first anniversary with sales of 30,000 units.

Mahindra Electric has completed one year since the launch of its XUV9e and BE6 electric SUVs, with over 30,000 units sold within just seven months of availability in the market. During H1FY26, the company achieved the number one position in revenue market share for its EV division, generating over ₹8,000 crore, which is equivalent to approximately one vehicle sold every 10 minutes.

The SUV has demonstrated strong acceptance among owners, with over 65% daily usage and over 1,000 units driven over 20,000 km. Collectively, Mahindra EVs have covered over 200 million kilometers performing in diverse Indian conditions ranging from 4°C to 53°C. Specifically, 30% of owners have completed one-day trips of more than 400 km, and almost 60% of the vehicles achieve urban ranges of more than 500 km.

The customer base reflects a shift towards first-time Mahindra buyers, with 80% of owners new to the brand, driven by the appeal of urban professionals and tech-savvy consumers. BE6 gained attention through a gaming collaboration with BGMI and a limited-edition Batman version, which sold out within two minutes of launch.

Mahindra’s EV launch campaign garnered over 4 billion views, making the XUV 9e and BE 6 some of the most talked-about vehicles in India this year.
