Amazon has partnered with Tata Motors to deploy 3,000 electric trucks across its transportation network in India, the largest electric-truck deployment by an e-commerce company in the country. The trucks will transport customers’ shipments between facilities, across cities and across national freight corridors, expanding Amazon’s fleet electrification efforts beyond last-mile delivery.

The first batch of Tata Motors electric trucks was flagged off in Delhi in the presence of Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Amazon and Tata Motors executives and other dignitaries.

Amazon was represented by Abhinav Singh, vice president of operations for APAC, Middle East, Africa and Türkiye, and Kishore Lanka, director of operations, Amazon India. Tata Motors executives at the event included Sushant Naik, global head of government and corporate affairs and chief corporate affairs officer, and Rajesh Kaul, vice president and business head of trucks.

This deployment marks a significant expansion of electric commercial vehicles across Amazon’s Indian logistics operations, with the trucks ready to support shipment movements across its transportation network.

The planned deployment of 3,000 electric trucks represents a significant increase in India’s electric truck fleet, marking a major step in scaling up electric freight transportation across the country. According to the arrangement, Tata Motors will supply electric trucks for Amazon’s transportation needs, while Amazon’s carrier partners will own and operate the vehicles. The collaboration brings together long-term freight demand with Amazon’s logistics network and the engineering, manufacturing and service capabilities of Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial-vehicle manufacturer. Together, the companies aim to overcome key barriers to adoption and demonstrate how zero-exhaust-emission trucks can work at scale.

Expansion of electric trucks in cities and highway corridors

The initial rollout will begin in Delhi during India’s festive season, when freight volumes across e-commerce and retail supply chains reach their annual peaks. Amazon will deploy Tata Motors’ light and medium-duty electric trucks in its middle-mile transportation network. The next phase will see expansion of deployment on key national highways, with the ambition to electrify the 2,800 km long Delhi-Bengaluru-Chennai corridor along NH48 – India’s longest freight corridor – spanning seven states and connecting six of the country’s largest e-commerce regions. Dedicated charging infrastructure, including hubs being developed with charging infrastructure provider Yahvi, will support this expansion. The rollout follows the launch of Delhi’s 2026 EV policy, which gives a significant incentive to early adopters: the first 1,000 privately owned medium-duty electric trucks registered in the three months after the policy launch will be allowed to enter the city at any time of the day – except during normal “no entry” hours – for a full decade. It also supports India’s broader effort towards clean mobility and freight electrification along with initiatives like PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancements (PM e-Drive) and Parivartan.

Commenting on the announcement, Shri HD Kumaraswamy, Hon’ble Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, Government of India, commented, “Under the able leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji, India is rapidly moving towards the realization of Electric Mobility and Developing India 2047. The collaboration between Tata Motors and Amazon reflects the continued demand from the nationwide logistics network, which is catered to by Made in India electric trucks through schemes like PM e-Drive, PLI Auto and PLI ACC. The government will continue to support this transformation and I look forward to more such efforts to empower green logistics.”

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Transport & IT, Government of Delhi, said, “From expanding our zero-emission mass mobility to building robust charging infrastructure across the capital, Delhi has led the country’s transition to electric mobility. Decarbonizing logistics is an important next step in our efforts to contribute to reducing transport-related emissions and improving air quality in Delhi. This collaboration between Amazon and Tata Motors is a “Sets an exemplary example of how progressive governance and industry leadership can work together to accelerate sustainable urban logistics and improve the quality of life for Delhi’s citizens.”

Abhinav Singh, Vice President, Operations, Amazon, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkey, said, “Electrification of our logistics and transportation networks is a critical part of Amazon’s goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. We have made significant progress with over 15,000 electric vehicles operating in over 500 cities in India. To enable this transformation, we are also supporting the development of infrastructure and solutions. We are now setting out to scale up electric trucking, one of the toughest challenges in decarbonizing transportation. Our collaboration with Tata Motors is an important step towards realizing this vision. By combining our strengths, we aim to accelerate the deployment of electric trucks on more routes, starting from intracity operations to India’s major freight corridors. is extended.

Sharing his views at the flag off ceremony, Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Limited, said, “Electric trucking in India is moving beyond the pilot phase and entering the phase of widespread adoption. With deep localization driving affordability and an attractive total cost of ownership, zero-emission trucks are becoming a viable business proposition for fleet operators across all segments. Working with Amazon India, we are providing charging infrastructure, servicing and operational support. This collaboration will demonstrate how electric trucks can be integrated into large-scale logistics operations, with the potential to help reduce transportation-related emissions. We believe this effort will contribute to the widespread adoption of electric commercial vehicles in the country.

Built around an integrated E-axle, the Tata Ultra E.7 features a new-generation crash-tested cabin equipped with CCS2 fast charging, regenerative braking and high-voltage safety systems. The truck is designed to deliver low operating costs, high uptime and a low emissions option for freight transportation.

The collaboration builds on Amazon’s ongoing work to electrify its transportation network in India, supported by 10 charging yards across the country developed by Yahvi. As a co-founder of The Climate Pledge, Amazon aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and is supporting initiatives to accelerate the electrification of commercial fleets in India. These include LaneShift, a program with C40 cities that piloted electric trucks on the Bengaluru-Chennai corridor and contributed to India’s first evidence-based program. roadmap For zero-exhaust-emission trucks. Most recently, The Climate Pledge launched SUPEREV, an integrated digital platform designed to ease commercial EV adoption by bringing together charging, vehicles, financing and access to renewable energy.
