Let us tell you that Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday flagged off 300 new zero-emission electric buses in the fleet of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). These include 195 Devi class 9 meter long and 105 state-of-the-art 12 meter long electric buses. On this occasion, many senior leaders including Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta were present.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the new low-floor AC buses will provide safe, comfortable and disabled-friendly travel to the passengers. All buses are provided with modern facilities like CCTV cameras, panic button, real-time GPS tracking and passenger information system.

Fleet of 6,600 buses, big target by 2029

For information, let us tell you that after the inclusion of new buses, Delhi’s public bus fleet has reached about 6,600. These include 4,845 electric buses and 1,755 CNG buses. Along with this, the Delhi government has set a target of preparing a fleet of about 14,000 modern buses by the year 2028-29. The government believes that by increasing the number of electric buses, air pollution will reduce, carbon emissions will reduce and people will get a better option of environment-friendly public transport.

Three new electric bus depots and automated testing stations

For better operation of electric buses, three modern electric bus depots have also been started in Narela, Rithala and Kohat Enclave. These depots will have world class facilities for parking, charging, servicing and maintenance of buses. Apart from this, a four-lane state-of-the-art Automated Vehicle Testing Station was also inaugurated at Nand Nagari DTC Depot. Here, fully automated fitness testing of about 52,000 heavy and light vehicles and 20,000 two-wheelers can be done every year.

New high security jail will be equipped with AI technology

During the program, Amit Shah also laid the e-foundation stone of the state-of-the-art high security jail to be built in Narela. Modern technologies like AI based CCTV surveillance, biometric access control, automated locking system, full body scanner, mobile signal jammer and in-house court will be used in this jail with a capacity of about 250 prisoners. According to the Delhi government, this project will be included in the most modern and technology-based jails of the country, which will set new standards of security, surveillance and jail management. At the same time, the new electric buses will prove to be a big step towards providing clean, safe and sustainable transportation system to the capital.
