The intelligent safety feature leverages connected vehicle data and road intelligence to alert riders about upcoming road hazards during active navigation.

    The system is designed to detect potholes, damaged road surfaces, uneven patches and speed breakers ahead and notify riders. Alerts are displayed visually on the scooter’s dashboard, while audio notifications can be delivered through the scooter’s speakers, the Ather Halo smart helmet, or a paired Bluetooth headset, helping riders stay focused on the road.

    Powered by Ather’s onboard computing platform and connected vehicle ecosystem, the feature continuously improves by analyzing aggregated data collected from the company’s growing fleet of connected scooters. This enables more accurate threat detection and timely alerts to riders.

    VinFast has officially unveiled the VF 2, a new compact electric city car that aims to make four-wheel vehicle ownership more affordable and accessible to Vietnamese consumers. Priced at VND 188 million including battery, the two-door, four-seat EV is positioned as a practical and safe alternative to motorcycles for everyday urban mobility.

    Designed for individual buyers, the VF2 is based on the Minio Green platform and has been further refined to suit the demands of city driving. Its compact dimensions and agile handling make it suitable for navigating narrow roads and congested urban environments while providing the convenience and comfort of a passenger car.

    The VF 2 measures 3,090 mm in length, 1,496 mm in width and 1,663.2 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,065 mm. Despite its compact footprint, the vehicle is designed to seat four people comfortably, striking a balance between space efficiency and maneuverability for daily commutes in urban areas.

    The VinFast VF 2 stands out with its distinctive styling, which highlights attractive details such as LED headlights and 13-inch alloy wheels that invite owners to personalize their vehicles. Inside, the cabin is equipped with modern features, including a 7-inch driver information display behind the steering wheel, air conditioning, four-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and two integrated speakers with FM radio, ensuring that every journey is comfortable and enjoyable.

    The VF2 is powered by a rear wheel drive electric motor that produces a maximum output of 30 kW and peak torque of 65 Nm. Its top speed is 80 km/h and it has two driving modes, Eco and Normal. Its battery has a usable capacity of 18.3 kWh, providing a driving range of up to 210 km on a full charge under the NEDC standard. With DC fast charging of up to 24 kW, the battery can be recharged from 10% to 70% in approximately 34 minutes.

    Security is also a major priority for VF 2. The vehicle is equipped with a driver’s airbag and several advanced safety features including anti-lock braking system (ABS), traction control system (TCS), and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD). The MacPherson suspension system at both front and rear provides a smooth and stable driving experience.

    Priced at just VND 188 million including battery, the VF 2 comes with 10 free charging sessions per month at V-Green public charging stations nationwide until February 10, 2029. Offering the practicality and advanced safety technologies of a smart electric car, with an ownership cost comparable to a premium motorcycle, VinFast VF 2 is an accessible, safe and convenient mobility solution for every home. It also contributes to improving urban living standards and reducing indoor city pollution.

    VinFast will start accepting reservations for VF2 on July 15, 2026. Customers who deposit during the three-day promotional period from July 15 to July 17, 2026 will receive a rebate of VND8 million per vehicle. The VND 10 million deposit per vehicle is non-refundable, and can only be transferred to immediate family members, including parents, spouses, children, siblings, or companies owned by these individuals.

    The first VinFast VF2 vehicles are expected to be delivered to customers in September 2026.

    Amazon’s autonomous mobility company Zoox has unveiled the latest evolution of its purpose-built robotaxi, introducing a series of design, comfort and functionality upgrades as it prepares to launch mass production. The updated vehicle builds on nearly a decade of autonomous vehicle development and includes insights gathered from extensive testing, early commercial deployment and feedback from more than half a million riders.

    Designed specifically for autonomous ride-hailing, the Zoox Robotaxi eliminates traditional driving controls in favor of a spacious, symmetrical cabin that prioritizes passenger comfort and safety. Its distinctive carriage-style seating arrangement, which allows passengers to sit face-to-face, remains a defining feature of the vehicle, providing a social and more engaging travel experience.

    Upgraded interior for greater comfort

    The latest iteration introduces a number of refinements aimed at improving passenger comfort and usability while maintaining the minimalist design philosophy that defines the Zoox experience.

    The cabin now features a lighter interior color palette with monochrome aloe green seating, complemented by stone-grey floors and trim, creating a calmer and more inviting environment. The updated colors and materials also improve the visibility of everyday items like smartphones and bags, as well as provide greater durability for urban operations.

    The passenger seating arrangement has also been redesigned based on passenger feedback to enhance comfort during the journey, including additional cushioning and improved ergonomic contours for both seats and headrests.

    Several customer-favorite features have also been upgraded, including a brighter touchscreen interface, a redesigned wireless charging pad with better grip, and larger cupholders to safely accommodate beverages while in transit.

    Commenting on the updated design, Chris Stoffel, director of robotic industrial design and studio engineering at Zoox, said the latest refinements differentiate the company’s purpose-built robotaxi from traditional passenger vehicles by creating a more comfortable and distraction-free environment focused solely on the rider experience.

    Better exterior design and communication features

    While retaining its distinctive exterior design, the new robotaxi includes several functional improvements to enhance visibility and communication.

    Zoox has refined its signature bidirectional reflectors, which use color changes to differentiate the front and rear of the vehicle, improving visibility and integration into the overall exterior design. The company has also upgraded the door interface with a new speaker and microphone system, adding advanced two-way audio capabilities to facilitate clear communication between passengers, Zoox support teams, emergency responders and other road users.

    ready for mass production

    The updated robotaxi represents Zoox’s production-intent vehicle and will soon enter serial production at the company’s manufacturing facility in Hayward, California.

    According to the company, subject to regulatory approval, the production line has the capacity to produce 100 robotaxis per week. The vehicles will gradually join Zoox’s autonomous fleet across its operating markets and are expected to be available to riders later this year.

    As India pursues its clean mobility ambitions, the conversation about the country’s transportation future has largely been framed as a competition between electric vehicles, ethanol-powered vehicles and hybrids. Policymakers, automakers, and industry stakeholders often debate which technology is best positioned to lead the change. However, for a diverse country like India with varying levels of infrastructure development, energy access and consumer needs, the answer may not lie in choosing a single solution.

    In this article, Anand Mahurkar, Founder and CEO, Findability Sciences, explains why the future of India’s mobility is likely to be shaped by a combination of technologies rather than a winner-take-all approach. They argue that artificial intelligence can serve as an important decision-making tool, helping stakeholders identify the right mobility solutions for specific sectors, use cases, and market conditions. By converting vast amounts of data into actionable intelligence, AI can enable a more efficient, sustainable and inclusive mobility transition.

    India’s mobility debate has a recurring problem: it keeps asking the wrong questions.

    The discussion is often framed as EVs vs. ethanol vs. hybrids, as if the aim is to identify one winner and build the future around it. But for a country of scale, geographic diversity and economic complexity like India, the more important question is not which technology wins. It’s about which technology works best, where, for whom, and under what circumstances. This difference is important – and today, with advances in artificial intelligence, it is becoming increasingly possible to find those answers.

    A closer look at India’s mobility landscape reveals that each technology is moving on a different path. Electric vehicle sales reaching 2.05 million units in FY2025 is an impressive milestone, but it is primarily driven by strong adoption in the two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments, where affordability and operating economics make a compelling case. In contrast, passenger EV adoption is relatively limited beyond major urban centres, hampered by infrastructure gaps and charging vehicle price points that are still out of reach for many consumers.

    Ethanol offers a different success story. India achieved its E20 fuel-blend target in 2025 – five years ahead of schedule – while ethanol production capacity has increased from less than 2 billion liters in 2014 to nearly 20 billion liters today. This rapid scale-up represents one of the country’s most significant energy-transition achievements, although its impact is often overlooked outside the industry.

    Meanwhile, hybrids continue to gain momentum despite being seen as an interim solution. Sales are projected to grow from around 323,000 units in FY20 to around 1.7 million units by FY30, indicating their potential to bridge the gap in markets where full electrification or ethanol-based solutions may not yet be practical.

    What emerges is not a competition with any one winner, but three technologies that follow different adoption stages and address different mobility needs across India. The real policy challenge is not to choose one over the other, but to create a balanced portfolio that allows each technology to play to its strengths in the markets where it can have the greatest impact.

    The hardest problem is this: Managing that portfolio intelligently requires taking into account more variables at once than any traditional planning process. Fuel price volatility. Availability of feedstock as per season and region. Grid reliability district by district. Vehicle usage patterns across segments. Combining mandate interactions with hybrid adoption. Rural income relations are linked to ethanol uptake. These variables do not move independently, they are mixed, and they change rapidly. This is not a data problem. This is a decision-making problem. And this is exactly where AI earns its place.

    We operate within India’s sugar and ethanol value chain, a system where distillery throughput, sugarcane yield cycles, logistics costs and blending economics are interdependent. Deploying AI as an active intelligence layer in that chain, not just for reporting, but for real-time decision support, brings out continuous optimization that traditional analytics misses. The complexity of mobility planning at the national level varies in scope, but not in type. The same principle applies: AI doesn’t just process data. It changes which decisions become possible.

    OEMs mapping their 2030 powertrain strategy need to know not only where EVs are headed, but what is driving that growth, and what will hold it back in the next market. A fleet operator needs real-time guidance calibrated to his specific route, load profile and fuel access. Policymakers designing the next ethanol phase need to look at how the feedstock changes through pricing, blending rates, and farmer incomes in the same model. These are not the same questions. Considering them as one and the same makes the plan wrong.

    India’s mobility future will not be defined by one technology triumphing over others. Instead, success will depend on building the intelligence and decision-making framework needed to deploy the most appropriate solution in the right geography, for the right application, and at the right time.

    The foundation for this approach already exists. The data is available, computational capabilities are advancing rapidly, and AI-powered analytics can now process levels of complexity that traditional planning methods struggle to manage. All that is left is a shift in mindset – from technology-focused debates driven by ideology to decisions guided by evidence, real-world conditions and measurable outcomes.

    Ultimately, the leaders of India’s mobility transformation will not be those who champion one technology over another, but rather those who can most effectively use data and intelligence to integrate multiple solutions into a coherent, scalable and sustainable mobility ecosystem. That capability, more than any individual breakthrough in batteries, fuels or powertrains, is likely to shape the next phase of India’s transportation revolution.

Meanwhile, premium compact EV brand Jugnu delivered 5,663 vehicles, growing 53.9% year-on-year and 13.7% month-on-month.

    During the first five months of 2026, NIO delivered a cumulative 150,526 vehicles, representing an increase of 68.7% compared to the same period last year. The company’s cumulative deliveries have now reached 1,148,118 vehicles.

    NIO further strengthened its product portfolio during May with the launch of the all-new ES9 flagship executive SUV, which was unveiled on May 27 and customer deliveries began immediately. ONVO also expanded its lineup with the launch and deliveries of the L80 on May 15, while deliveries of the 2026 ONVO L90 began earlier this month.

    Looking ahead, ONVO is preparing to launch the new L60, which made its public debut and opened for pre-order at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Auto Show. The model is scheduled for an official launch on June 11, with display vehicles already arriving at ONVO retail stores across China.

    As part of this collaboration, passengers booking NewGo intercity bus tickets can now seamlessly incorporate metro connectivity – either to reach their boarding point or to travel from their drop-off location to their final destination. Metro tickets will be directly linked to Newgo PNR, removing the need for separate booking or payment process. Passengers can collect their metro tickets from the station counters by simply presenting their NewGo ticket.

    There are more than 1,00,000 fuel retail outlets in India that service millions of vehicles every day. At the same time, EV adoption is increasing, highways are expanding rapidly, and commercial fleets need to move faster. Still, there is a bigger issue: the infrastructure exists, but visibility and usage is fragmented.

    Drivers still don’t know at which stations the lines are short. Fleet managers cannot include real-time congestion information at fuel stations when planning routes. EV users often arrive only to discover that a charger is not available. Some stations are packed while some are empty. This leads to fuel wastage, loss of time, excess emissions and unpredictable operation.

    India’s next step in mobility isn’t just about building more fuel stations or chargers. It’s about making those stations smarter, easier to find and better able to work together.

    Fuel stations are shifting from simple pit stops to intelligent mobility nodes.

    Fuel stations have always been seen as physical points on a map. But in today’s digital world, location alone is not enough. Now, real-time information is all that matters.

    By converting existing fuel centers into mobility nodes, we can create a seamless experience for people, so that they can get all types of fuel under one roof, whether petrol, diesel, CNG, or electric. It needs to become a digital service point that provides real-time updates on availability, waiting time and service capacity.

    It’s not just about convenience. It’s about improving the entire system. Even small reductions in waiting times, when multiplied across millions of vehicles, can lead to huge economic savings and lower emissions. Mobility nodes can help by making better use of what we already have rather than simply building more.

    Why is time important?

    Time is now as valuable as money, and three major changes have made this change urgent.

    First, EV rollout is accelerating in India, but charger adoption remains uneven. Many users feel worried not only because chargers are in short supply, but also because they cannot check whether chargers are available or working.

    Second, fleet economics are becoming tighter. Delivery times have shortened, fuel prices fluctuate and profit margins are shrinking. Waiting at stations is no longer a minor hassle; It now causes real, measurable business losses.

    Third, India’s highway expansion is occurring at a record pace. New expressways and economic corridors are transforming intercity travel, making everything more accessible in less time. But without integrated data, we risk replicating old inefficiencies on new infrastructure.

    Therefore, as the physical infrastructure is growing rapidly, the digital side also needs to keep pace.

    What can’t we forget?

    India has done well in building roads, promoting clean mobility and supporting digital payments. However, fuel and energy access is largely separate from broader mobility intelligence systems.

    Today, a driver can easily make a payment through UPI, but cannot get reliable, standardized information on wait times, dispenser availability, or expected service duration. This difference may seem small, but at a national level it adds up to significant disutility.

    Without visibility, infrastructure cannot reach its full potential.

    What can the government do next?

    The next big step doesn’t require huge investments, because we already have the physical infrastructure, and startups are inventing technologies that can bridge the digital divide. Therefore, there is a need for a policy, supported by the government, that encourages and supports digital integration. Some targeted orders from the government can accelerate change, such as:

    Standardized data protocols: By establishing interoperable standards for fuel stations and EV chargers to share and enforce anonymous availability and service metrics across platforms, the government can make it easier for systems to share information and alert service providers to upcoming traffic. Digital incentives: Encouraging stations to adopt real-time monitoring and visibility systems, similar to earlier incentives that supported physical EV deployment, can simplify operations and speed up decision making, as stations now have access to information that can help retailers make faster decisions. Mobility Data Exchange: Creating frameworks where aggregated, privacy-compliant infrastructure data can inform route optimization, congestion management, and urban planning. With the government’s direction, opening up mobility data exchange between fuel retailers and EV charging facilities will help users access real-time information and make hassle-free decisions.

    These measures will unlock value from existing assets without having to build everything from scratch, and empower fuel retailers, end consumers and fleet managers to make informed decisions to save resources.

    the way forward

    India’s future of mobility Switching from petrol to electric won’t be easy, as millions have yet to buy their first car, and EVs are not budget-friendly. Therefore, in the next decade, we can expect different energy sources to co-exist. Passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, commercial fleets and freight corridors will all be changing at the same time.

    In this new environment, fuel stations cannot simply remain passive refueling points. They need to become intelligent mobility nodes that reduce uncertainty, make things more predictable, and fit easily into digital mobility systems.

    The real opportunity now is to connect the dots so that every fuel station in India is more than just a stop and plays an active, intelligent role in the country’s mobility transformation.
