LEPAS L8 PHEV unveiled with hybrid technology and stunning design

LEPAS, the mid-to-premium new energy vehicle (NEV) brand under Chery Auto, has unveiled the LEPAS L8 PHEV for global markets, combining advanced plug-in hybrid technology, intelligent driving capabilities and premium design to redefine elegant mobility.

Designed around the brand’s signature “Leopard Aesthetics” philosophy, the LEPAS L8 PHEV integrates the LEPAS Super Hybrid System to deliver confident performance, extended driving range and increased efficiency. This model is aimed at customers seeking a refined driving experience that combines intelligent technology with stylish design and everyday practicality.

Taking inspiration from the composure, precision and flexibility displayed by elite athletes on the global football stage, the LEPAS L8 PHEV reflects the brand’s vision of combining performance with beauty. According to LEPAS, the vehicle embodies the values of confidence, balance and determination while offering an all-round package tailored for the emerging global new energy vehicle market.

Leopard aesthetics – where strength meets beauty

Throughout the final, Spain’s fluid passing and movement presented a compelling balance of power and elegance, in contrast to Argentina’s determined and resilient resistance. It perfectly matches LEPAS’s signature “Leopard Aesthetics” design philosophy. The LEPAS L8 PHEV takes inspiration from the leopard’s long, agile stance, striking a balance between unbridled power and restrained refinement. It reflected the two finalists – one controlling the game with fluid rhythm, the other maintaining its grip with flexibility. The leopard aesthetic embodies the coexistence of power and sophistication, creating a design language that is confident and elegant.

The leopard avant-garde front face, paired with the leopard dynamic shoulder line, hides a sharp tension beneath its smooth shape. Leopard silhouette through-type LED taillights, when illuminated, glow like the fleeting shadow of a leopard throughout the night, creating an interweaving of movement and stillness. Customized paint finishes, such as Norwegian Forest Green and Provence Purple, are produced through a seven-layer painting process to achieve a sophisticated, understated texture with a recognizable visual identity. This design language – both fluid and powerful – ensures that the vehicle stands out with a beautiful character, whether it is driving on city streets or on open roads.

The interior continues this philosophy of power and elegance. The class-leading 2800 mm wheelbase creates an airy, spacious, wraparound cabin, where flowing lines soften the cool precision of modern engineering. An active fragrance system, AQS air quality monitoring, UV-blocking and heat-insulating glass, cloud-comfort lounge seats and a theatre-class quiet cabin work together to create a sophisticated sanctuary from the outside world. Together, they create a restrained and comfortable travel experience, bringing the sense of confidence and comfort found in championship performance to every journey.

LEPAS Super Hybrid – Confidence in every journey

On the pitch the championship team proved that success does not come from any one style, but from the ability to adapt. Whether controlling the tempo of the game or responding calmly under pressure, true champions remain calm in every situation. This is the philosophy behind the LEPAS L8 PHEV, which delivers confident, well-balanced performance in every driving scenario.

The LEPAS L8 PHEV is powered by the LEPAS Super Hybrid System, consisting of a dedicated hybrid engine with an industry-leading thermal efficiency of 45.79% and a dedicated hybrid transmission with a transmission efficiency of 97.6%. It achieves ultra-low comprehensive fuel consumption of only 2.38L/100km and a comprehensive range of up to 1,300 kilometers under NEDC conditions. With 40kW DC fast charging, the battery can be recharged from 30% to 80% while you enjoy a cup of coffee. Be it urban commutes, business trips, or long-distance trips, it seamlessly adapts to every scenario, reducing range anxiety and providing a confident driving experience.

Comprehensive protection and intelligent protection – a solid protection with quick response

“Offense wins you games, but defense wins you championships.” Throughout the tournament, Spain’s defense was impenetrable, conceding just one goal in the entire competition, while Argentina’s layered defensive network was equally one of the strongest on display. Both teams perfectly demonstrated the art of defense – and this is exactly the philosophy behind how the LEPAS L8 PHEV protects its users’ luxurious journeys.

The LEPAS L8 PHEV features a cage-style body constructed with a high proportion of high-strength steel, equipped with 10 airbags to ensure the integrity of the cabin during a collision and provide comprehensive protection for each occupant.

The power battery includes triple battery protection protection with IP68/IPX9K rating that effectively prevents ingress of water and dust. This enables the vehicle to confidently handle complex road conditions such as flooded roads and unpaved surfaces, creating a solid safety foundation for every journey.

On the intelligent front, the LEPAS L8 PHEV is equipped with Level 2 ADAS (Intelligent Driving Assistance System), which integrates more than twenty functions, including 540° panoramic transparent imaging, APA/RPA automatic parking and forward collision warning, lane keeping assist and rear cross traffic braking. These technologies ensure driving safety and convenience, protecting every journey from start to finish, like a tenacious defense on the pitch.

Every championship leaves behind more than just results. The young Spanish team perfectly demonstrated how composure and teamwork can control a game, while the Argentine team showed unwavering determination, with Messi’s relentless drive under pressure standing as testament to passion and resilience. As the final whistle blows, the journey continues. With the upcoming LEPAS L8 PHEV, LEPAS is committed to bringing great mobility to every road ahead.

Let us tell you that the company has released a video in which the words Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Battery Electric Vehicle are visible. The video clearly states, “The future is knocking. A sign. More than one possibility.” This teaser has clearly indicated that Kia is preparing to launch a new hybrid and a fully electric car in India.

    Big hints from teaser

For your information, let us tell you that Kia has not yet officially announced the name of any model, but looking at the recent spy pictures and the company’s product strategy, auto experts believe that the BEV teaser points towards the upcoming Syros EV. The HEV teaser is being linked to the Sorento Hybrid. In such a situation, if this turns out to be true, then Kia will be able to strengthen its electric and hybrid portfolio in India more than ever, which will further intensify competition in this segment.

High-tech features can be found in Syros EV

So far, Kia’s upcoming Syros EV has been spotted several times testing on Indian roads. After launch, it will be the fourth electric car of Kia India after Carens Clavis EV, EV6 and EV9. It is expected that its boxy design will remain like the existing petrol Syros but it may get EV-specific design updates, new aerodynamic alloy wheels and attractive color options. Talking about the features, it is likely to get premium features like 30-inch Trinity display, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, dashcam and level-2 ADAS. Sorento Hybrid can challenge Fortuner

Sorento Hybrid, which comes in the hybrid segment, also remains a topic of discussion. This three-row SUV has been spotted testing in India. Apart from this, premium features like panoramic sunroof, Bose audio system, ventilated seats, multi-zone climate control and level-2 ADAS are also expected to be provided.

In terms of price, it can give tough competition to SUVs like Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian.

  • BYD will enter India’s plug-in hybrid segment with the Sealed U SUV later this year.

BYD will enter India’s plug-in hybrid segment with the Sealed U SUV later this year.

BYD India is set to expand its product strategy beyond pure battery-electric vehicles with the launch of the Sealed U plug-in hybrid SUV later this year, marking the company’s entry into India’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) segment.

The announcement was made by Rajiv Chauhan, head of electric passenger vehicle business at BYD India, during the unveiling of the company’s DM-i (Dual Mode Intelligent) technology in India.

“Within this year we will have our first car on this platform, DM-i technology and that car will be Seal U,” Chauhan said.

The launch marks a significant milestone for BYD India, which has focused exclusively on electric vehicles since it began passenger vehicle operations in the country in 2021. The company currently offers four electric models in the Indian market – Atto 3, Sealion, eMax 7 and Sealion 7.

According to Chauhan, the move to plug-in hybrid technology complements BYD’s broader new-energy vehicle strategy rather than signaling a move away from electrification.

“Since then, over the last five years, we have introduced five products built on fully electric platforms. Today, we are choosing the second path, and this is a first for India,” he said.

BYD is pitching its DM-i technology as an electric-first mobility solution, designed to provide the benefits of electric driving while addressing concerns related to long-distance travel and charging infrastructure. Unlike conventional hybrid systems, which rely primarily on the internal combustion engine, DM-i vehicles operate primarily on electric power, with the petrol engine supporting the system when needed.

“The simplest way to define this category is that it is the first electric vehicle. You essentially run on electricity,” Chauhan said.

BYD’s DM-i technology is backed by nearly two decades of plug-in hybrid development. The company introduced the BYD F3DM in 2008, which it describes as the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid vehicle. Since then, BYD has sold more than 8 million vehicles based on its plug-in hybrid technology, and has established itself as one of the world’s largest PHEV manufacturers.

Chauhan emphasized that the introduction of DM-i aligns with BYD’s mission to expand access to electrified mobility and encourage more consumers to experience electric driving.

He said, “This is not the path we are deviating from. It is completely in line with our philosophy of new energy vehicles. The aim is to bring more customers into the circle where they can experience electric-first driving.”

BYD currently assembles its vehicles in India from semi-knocked-down (SKD) kits at its manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The upcoming launch of Seal U DM-i is expected to strengthen the company’s presence in the rapidly growing Indian new-energy vehicle market.
