With the market facing a rapid boom in the Electric Vehicle industry and several ‘A-listers already gearing up to launch successors of their previous models, Hyundai Motors, which is one of the leading companies in India, is planning to launch their second Electric Car in the second quarter of 2022. The company has mentioned that the name IONIQ is a combination of two different words – Ion and Unique. KONA EV was Hyundai’s first electric car.
Recently, Hyundai IONIQ was in the spotlight when it won three different awards in the World Car Awards 2022, namely, World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and World Car Design of the Year.
By 2028, Hyundai aims to launch at least 6 electric cars. To quote the MD and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd, “Hyundai Motor India has already committed to the expansion of our BEV line up to six models by 2028, and today, with great pride we are announcing the introduction of IONIQ 5 in CY 2022 in India”, said Unsoo Kim.

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is expected to be launched in India sometime in mid-2023.
Performance
Based on the Electric Global Modular Architecture (E-GMP), the all-electric Ioniq 5 uses two different battery packs: 58kWh and 72.6kWh. The standard range battery pack provides a range of up to 385km, whereas the long-range one can cover up to 481km, as per WLTP. In addition, Hyundai offers a choice of two drivetrain options: rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. The base variant with a rear-wheel drive produces 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line all-wheel-drive trim can generate 301bhp and 605Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the top speed is rated at 185kmph. The Ioniq 5 uses a unique 800-volt charging architecture. When plugged into a 350kW ultra-fast charger, it can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes, while the charger also provides about 100km of range with five minutes of charge.
Hyundai IONIQ 5 Features
Hyundai offers LED headlamps and rear lights, a Bose sound system, a 360-degree camera setup, dual-zone temperature control, hands-free boot opening, seven airbags and two 12.25-inch displays. Having said that, the most significant feature of the Ioniq 5 is that the car supports Level 2 autonomous driving.
