Xpeng May 2026 deliveries down 4.1%, GX SUV order outlook raised |

Xpeng reported deliveries of 32,158 vehicles in May 2026, representing a 4.1% decline year-over-year and marking the company’s fifth consecutive month of annual delivery contraction. However, deliveries increased by 3.7% compared with April, showing signs of stabilization amid challenging market conditions in China’s highly competitive electric vehicle sector.

During the first five months of 2026, Xpeng delivered 125,851 vehicles, down 22.6% year-on-year. Despite the slowdown, the automaker’s cumulative deliveries have now exceeded 1.14 million units, underscoring its growing footprint in the global EV market.

A major catalyst for future growth is the newly launched GX SUV, which entered the market on May 20. Although the model had limited impact on May deliveries due to its launch late in the month, initial demand has been strong. The GX received 24,863 confirmed orders within 12 hours of launch, with over 80% of customers choosing the flagship Ultra variant, highlighting strong consumer interest in its premium technology and feature set.

Available in both battery-electric and extended-range electric versions, the GX targets the fast-growing mid-to-premium SUV segment. Xpeng has also adopted a competitive pricing strategy, with models starting at 269,800 yuan (about US$39,800), aimed at consolidating its position in the crowded market.

Beyond vehicle sales, Xpeng is pursuing its autonomous driving ambitions. In May, the company announced that China’s first factory-built, mass-produced Level 4 robotaxi, developed entirely by an automaker, had rolled off the production line in Guangzhou. Based on the GX platform, the robotaxi is powered by four in-house developed Turing AI chips, providing a combined computing capacity of 3,000 TOPS, with demonstration operations expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026.

The company is also gaining ground in international markets. Xpeng’s overseas business passed a major milestone in April, with monthly exports exceeding 6,000 units for the first time. The expansion of deliveries for the P7+ sedan has significantly contributed to this growth, supporting the automaker’s strategy to diversify beyond the domestic Chinese market.

While May’s delivery figures reflect ongoing market pressures, strong initial demand for the GX SUV, accelerated international expansion, and continued investment in autonomous driving technologies, positions Xpeng for a potential recovery in the coming months.
