Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal launched the ‘EV as a Service’ program of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. This program is an important step towards the adoption of electric cars in Central and State Government Ministries/Departments, CPSEs and Institutions.
CESL’s ‘EV as a Service’ program addresses the growing demand for EVs within the government sector, with an ambitious target of deploying 5,000 e-cars over the next two years. By leveraging a flexible procurement model, the program allows deployment of a variety of e-car makes/models, enabling the Govt. Offices choose e-cars that best match their operational needs. This not only supports the environmental sustainability vision of the government, but is also in line with India’s ambitious target of achieving net zero emissions by 2070.
By enabling EV adoption in government fleets, CESL is making a significant contribution in reducing carbon emissions, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and strengthening India’s energy security. The launch event witnessed an impressive turnout and held an EV exhibition and an EV rally featuring over 100 electric vehicles from various segments including e-cycles, electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, e-tractors, etc. , e-mobile charging vans, e-cargo pickups, e-buses and e-trucks. The rally highlighted the versatility and breadth of e-mobility solutions now available in India, underscoring CESL’s commitment to promoting green, sustainable transportation solutions.
The event was attended by many eminent officials from Central Government Ministries/Departments like Ministry of Power, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Additionally, various e-mobility OEMs, think-tanks and EV enthusiasts participated in the event.
