Reliance New Energy plans EV battery-swapping network for logistics fleet.

Published:

Reliance New Energy, the clean energy arm of Reliance Industries, is preparing to launch battery-swapping services for electric two-wheelers operating in the logistics and delivery segments, strengthening the group’s ambitions in electric mobility and sustainable energy solutions.

According to sources familiar with the development, the company has secured certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for four battery variants and three electric two-wheeler platforms, enabling the next phase of testing and pilot deployment.

The company is expected to begin testing within its fleet operations before expanding the program to select cities. Subject to successful testing and validation, Reliance may move towards wider commercial rollout by the end of FY 2026-27.

At the core of the initiative is a removable lithium-ion battery pack developed by Reliance, designed to power electric scooters, three-wheelers and light commercial vehicles. The technology was first showcased at the Renewable Energy India Expo 2023 as part of Reliance’s broader strategy to build an integrated EV ecosystem covering battery cells, energy storage solutions, charging infrastructure and related energy services.

In the initial phase, the company is likely to focus on commercial fleet operators including e-commerce, logistics and last-mile delivery companies, where battery swapping can significantly reduce vehicle downtime and improve operational efficiency. Industry observers believe this model offers the strongest economic benefits for fleets operating in certain geographic areas, making it a practical solution for high-usage commercial applications.

The planned rollout underlines Reliance’s growing commitment to accelerate EV adoption and develop scalable energy infrastructure to support India’s transition towards clean mobility.
