Jaguar has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming luxury four-door electric GT – Jaguar Type 01 – marking the beginning of a new era for the iconic British brand.
The new naming strategy reflects Jaguar’s heritage as well as signals its transformation into an all-electric luxury marque. According to the company, the “Type” designation pays homage to famous Jaguar models such as the C-Type, E-Type and F-Type, while “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions and “1” denotes the first model in Jaguar’s next-generation lineup.
Designed, developed and manufactured in the UK, the Jaguar Type 01 is created to embody the brand’s new focus on originality, advanced technology and high-performance electric mobility.
Jaguar says the upcoming GT will feature an entirely new body architecture, which aims to deliver a distinctive visual identity and driving experience unlike any other electric vehicle in the segment. The car will also feature bold linear graphics and a new signature strikethrough motif where the bonnet meets the windscreen.
Performance will be the highlight of the Type 01, with Jaguar confirming a tri-motor electric powertrain that produces over 1,000PS and 1,300Nm of torque.
Rawdon Glover said the Type 01 name reflects the company’s complete brand reset and represents the first chapter of Jaguar’s next-generation product strategy. He said the vehicle has been engineered to offer a unique blend of design, performance and driving character while remaining connected to Jaguar’s heritage.
Ahead of its official unveiling later this year, Jaguar Type 01 prototypes will be seen on the streets of Monaco wearing a distinctive camouflage livery during the Monaco E-Prix weekend, in conjunction with Jaguar TCS Racing’s participation in Formula E.
Jaguar said the Type 01’s modernist design language, advanced technology and dynamic driving characteristics will form the foundation of future Jaguar models.
