BYD files patent for Denza N9 and Bao 3 designs in India.

Published:

BYD has filed new design patents for its upcoming vehicles in India. A filing was made for the Bao 3 EV in September, followed by another for the Denza N9 PHEV in October. This comes just ahead of the India Mobility Global Expo in January 2025, where BYD has confirmed its participation. However, the company is yet to officially announce details regarding the launches of these two EVs.

Denza, a luxury new energy vehicle (NEV) brand owned by BYD and based in Shenzhen, China, has an N9 model, which has a 3.1-meter long wheelbase and a length of 5.2 meters, which puts it in the same size category. Mercedes GLS. According to its listing on the website of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Denza N9 is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).

The N9 PHEV combines an internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric powertrain. The combustion engine is a 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit producing up to 206hp, while the electric setup delivers a combined 924hp from a front-axle motor and two rear-wheel motors. Its 47kWh blade-cell battery offers a range of 165 kilometres. Additionally, the full-electric version of the N9 features the same three-motor configuration with a maximum output of 965hp.

The Bao 3 electric SUV is developed by BYD’s Fangchengbao subsidiary, which focuses on off-road vehicles. Based on the Super 3 concept car, the 4.6 meter long SUV will sit above the Atto 3 (4.4 metres). It has front (149hp) and rear (299hp) electric motors that mimic a four-wheel-drive (4WD) setup. Bao 3 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and its top speed is 201 km/h. BYD has also filed a design patent for an SUV with a roof-mounted carrier.

At the upcoming India Mobility Global Expo, BYD will showcase its current electric vehicle lineup and other new energy vehicles (NEVs). Stay tuned to see if the BYD Denza N9 and Bao 3 will be present at next month’s event.
