As India’s electric mobility ecosystem enters a new phase of growth, the focus is rapidly shifting from driving EV adoption to building the infrastructure, products and consumer confidence required to make electric mobility mainstream. On World EV Day, industry leaders from electric two-wheelers, charging infrastructure, energy and mobility sectors have highlighted the key priorities shaping the next chapter of the country’s electrification.
From expanding EV adoption beyond major cities and making electric motorcycles more accessible to strengthening charging infrastructure, energy management and after-sales support, the industry believes the next phase will depend on creating a trustworthy and inclusive EV ecosystem. The leaders also emphasize the importance of technology, domestic manufacturing, renewable energy and practical solutions that meet the everyday needs of Indian consumers.
Against this backdrop, industry leaders share their perspectives on how India can accelerate the transition to widespread, sustainable and mainstream electric mobility through EV adoption.
Ms. Madhumita Agarwal, Founder and CEO of Oben Electric
“India’s EV journey is entering a new phase, moving from conversational adoption to mainstream acceptance. With EV registrations set to cross 25 lakh in FY 2025-26, the momentum is clear, with electric two-wheelers emerging as one of the strongest drivers of this transition.
The next opportunity is in electric motorcycles. Two-wheelers are at the center of everyday mobility in India, and as consumers look to EVs not as an option but as the primary mode of transportation, electric motorcycles could play a decisive role in taking electrification deeper into the mass market.
For this change to scale, the industry must continue to focus on accessible pricing, reliable products, convenient charging, strong after-sales support and a strong domestic EV ecosystem. Investment in technology and manufacturing, as well as continued policy support, will further underpin this transformation.
World EV Day is a reminder that the future of mobility is not just about making vehicles electric; It is about making electric mobility practical, aspirational and accessible for millions of Indians. The next chapter of India’s EV story will be about making that transition truly mainstream. Ms. Madhumita Agarwal, Founder and CEO, Oben Electric said
Mr. Arun Bhardwaj, Managing Director, Smarten Power Systems
“World EV Day provides an opportunity to see electrification as much more than the transition from conventional vehicles to electric vehicles. It is equally about building the energy infrastructure needed to make electric mobility reliable and practical in everyday life. The effectiveness of an EV critically depends on the ecosystem that supports it, making reliable charging infrastructure, efficient energy use and adequate power availability increasingly important.
As India enters the next phase of EV adoption, production, charging, energy storage and consumption should be viewed as interconnected parts of a single ecosystem. Beyond EV sales volumes, attention must also be paid to whether the supporting infrastructure can keep pace with increasing everyday demand. Mr. Arun Bhardwaj, Managing Director, Smarten Power Systems, said, by making greater use of renewable energy and managing electricity demand more efficiently, electric mobility can lead to a cleaner mode of transportation and contribute to building a smarter, more resilient energy system.
Mr. Divyanshu Agarwal, CEO, Zelio e-Mobility
“World EV Day serves as a reminder that India’s transition to electric mobility will not be driven by one vehicle segment or limited to major metropolitan markets. The next wave of EV adoption is rapidly emerging from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where electric two-wheelers are meeting everyday mobility needs through practical, accessible and affordable solutions.
The low-speed EV segment has an important role to play in these markets. Our experience has shown that sustainable EV adoption depends on how effectively the technology addresses real-world needs, including efficient daily commute, low operating costs, ease of operation and reliable local service. The key opportunity now lies in expanding its presence in smaller towns and converting growing consumer interest into long-term trust.
At Zelio e-Mobility, we focus on developing relevant, value-driven mobility solutions that can help electric two-wheelers evolve from an emerging option to a mainstream mobility option across India,” said Mr. Divyanshu Agarwal, CEO, Zelio e-Mobility.
Mr. Reshu Madan, President and SBU Head, Havells India
“India’s EV revolution is moving ahead of adoption and entering a phase where building confidence and creating the right ecosystem for large-scale growth will be critical.
As more consumers and businesses move toward electric mobility, the focus is increasingly shifting toward developing an ecosystem that is reliable, intelligent, and future-ready. Charging infrastructure will play a key role in this transformation, and it will need to go beyond convenience to provide the reliability and trust expected by EV users.
At Havells, trust has been built over decades through our focus on electrical safety, quality and innovation. Through Havells Motron, we are extending this legacy to electric mobility with charging solutions designed for homes, workplaces, fleets and highways. From AC chargers supporting everyday commutes to DC fast chargers enabling mass mobility, Motron is guided by the principles that have long defined Havells: safety first, technology forward and reliability always.
We believe that the future of mobility will be closely linked to renewable energy, energy storage and intelligent energy management. Charging infrastructure will increasingly become an integral part of a broader energy ecosystem that is cleaner, smarter and more efficient. On World EV Day, we reaffirm our commitment to support India’s electric future with solutions designed not only to meet today’s needs but also to meet future ambitions.
Every EV needs power, but India’s transition to electric mobility also needs trust,” said Mr. Reshu Madan, President and SBU Head, Havells India.
