Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the government is conducting pilot trials of vehicles running on hydrogen fuel on 10 major routes of the country. ‘Hydrogen is the future of transportation’
Addressing an event, Nitin Gadkari said that the Central Government is working rapidly on developing hydrogen based transport system keeping in mind the future needs. He expressed confidence that hydrogen will become the main fuel in the transportation sector in the coming times and it will also help in reducing pollution.
India is moving towards clean energy
Gadkari said the government’s focus is not limited to electric vehicles only, but hydrogen, biofuel and other alternative fuels are also being promoted. He believes that through these technologies, India can not only meet its energy needs in a better way, but can also create a new identity at the global level.
Appeal to automobile sector to adopt new technology
The Union Minister appealed to vehicle manufacturers and transport companies to adopt world-class technology. He said that the need of the hour is to prepare new generation vehicles keeping in mind better quality, lower cost and passenger convenience. This will make public transport more safe, comfortable and reliable.
Government’s focus on manufacturing modern buses
Nitin Gadkari said that to strengthen public transport, it is very important to manufacture buses equipped with modern technology. He believes that providing safe, comfortable and affordable travel to passengers should be the priority of both the government and vehicle manufacturers.

Concern also expressed on road safety
In his address, the Union Minister also raised the issue of road safety. He said that every year about 5 lakh road accidents occur in the country, in which about 1.80 lakh people lose their lives. A large number of these are youth between 18 to 36 years.
He said that along with new technology and clean fuel, it is equally important to improve road safety, so that accidents can be reduced and people’s lives can be saved.
