Spiro, Africa’s leading electric mobility company, has appointed Anant Badjatya as its new Group Chief Executive Officer, strengthening its leadership team as the company accelerates its next phase of growth across the continent.

The appointment follows Spiro’s recent historic equity raise of US$215 million, which is expected to support the company’s ambitious Pan-African expansion strategy and further strengthen its position in the rapidly growing electric mobility sector.

Badjatya has over two decades of leadership experience in India, the Middle East and Africa with a proven track record of building and expanding businesses in the electric mobility, energy and industrial sectors. Most recently, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Indofast Energy, a joint venture between IndianOil and Sun Mobility.

During his tenure at Indofast Energy, Badjatya led the creation of one of India’s largest battery-swapping ecosystems, expanding the network to over 1,800 stations and supporting nearly 90,000 vehicles every day. His experience in developing large-scale clean mobility infrastructure is expected to play a key role in Spiro’s continued expansion and operational growth.

As Group CEO, Badzatya will oversee Spiro’s strategic growth initiatives across Africa while driving innovation, operational excellence and market expansion. The company also plans to further strengthen its technology and engineering capabilities in India under his leadership with a focus on strengthening its technology centers in Pune and Bengaluru.

The appointment comes at a significant moment for Spiro following its historic US$215 million financing round, one of the largest investments ever made in Africa’s electric mobility sector. As Spiro accelerates its mission to transform mobility across Africa, Infinite’s broad mandate will span battery swapping, leasing, logistics, energy and vehicle manufacturing. As CEO Mobility, Kaushik Barman will continue to further strengthen Spiro’s leadership and fleet across Spiro’s 7 existing markets and beyond.

Under Mr. Badjatya’s leadership, Spiro aims to significantly strengthen its India technology centers – both Pune which serves as the hub for automotive innovation, and Bengaluru, Spiro’s hub for innovation in technology. With over 100 headcount already, the Pune Tech Center is set for rapid expansion, creating high-value jobs in EV powertrain design, battery management systems (BMS). The Bengaluru hub, which already has 50+ people, will develop IoT-enabled cloud platforms and pilot R&D localization efforts in Kenya and Nigeria.

Gagan Gupta, Founder and Chairman of Spiro, said: “As Spiro accelerates its mission to transform mobility across Africa through clean, affordable and accessible electric transportation solutions, Anant will strengthen the group’s strategic initiatives and guide the company through the next chapter of growth and execution in mobility, energy and technology.”

Commenting on his appointment, Anant Badjatya said: “Africa represents the most exciting frontier for electric mobility.
