Yulu expands to eastern India, launches shared electric mobility services in Kolkata

Published:

Leading shared electric mobility company Yulu has launched its services in Kolkata, marking its first entry in Eastern India. The expansion is operated under a franchise model managed by Electri, a venture founded by Kolkata-based industrialist Soham Mishra.

Electri will deploy Yulu’s DEX GR electric vehicles (EVs) and leverage its advanced technology platform in Topsia, Ballygunge, Park Street and Jadavpur, with plans to expand further. Kolkata’s dense urban layout, growing demand for e-commerce and instant commerce solutions and environmentally conscious population make it an ideal market for Yulu’s sustainable freight mobility services. Over the next six months, Electri plans to onboard around 1,000 delivery riders working with leading brands like Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, Zepto and Amazon.

Amit Gupta, co-founder and CEO of Yulu, highlighted Kolkata’s potential for sustainable mobility and expressed his excitement for the partnership with Soham Mishra. He said, “Kolkata is a perfect fit for Yulu’s eco-friendly mobility platform. Working with Soham Mishra, whose expertise and vision aligns with our mission, will help accelerate the EV transition across the region. Gupta said Yulu aims to partner with entrepreneurs across the country to make clean and sustainable mobility accessible for last mile delivery, commute and leisure rides.

Soham Mishra, Founder of Electri, expressed his excitement, “Partnering with Yulu for this high-tech, sustainable mobility service is a step towards becoming the largest provider of battery-powered last-mile delivery services in Eastern India. Together, we aim to drive EV adoption and help business partners reduce their carbon footprint, thereby contributing to a greener and cleaner India.

Yulu’s technology-driven platform, which is already successful in instant commerce and e-commerce delivery with over 45,000 shared EVs across India, reduces delivery costs by 30-40% by eliminating fuel and maintenance expenses. Is. This approach increases vehicle uptime and ridership efficiency while promoting sustainable livelihoods for gig workers.

Electri plans to expand its services beyond the initial neighborhoods to areas like Rajarhat, Salt Lake, New Town, Howrah and North and South 24 Parganas. The energy requirements for the EV fleet will be supported by Yuma Energy, India’s leading Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) provider, with three battery-swapping stations set up in Central, East and South Kolkata.
